Budgie breeding
Budgie breeding is really good fun even if you don’t get the genetics because it is always exiting to see what comes out of the nest. I have now put five pairs together this is the most amount of pairs that I have ever put together. Budgie breeding is not just putting to pairs together you have to spend a lot of time thinking and watching what pairs to put together then if you can separate the cocks from the hens and put the cocks in the breeding cages so the cock can make it their home because you can not put a cock in with the hen it has to be the hen goes in to the cocks cage.
I give my birds 18 days for them to mate 7 to 8 days hatching time after the egg is laid then a week after hatching you should try ringing the biggest bird in the nest. A couple of things that you could do which is what I use for breeding I give the birds cytacon and abbidec which is added to the water, the amount is one tea spoon of cytacon  and a single drop of abbidec for every pint, this to each pint is given to them all year round.
After the birds have been together for two weeks I give them a few days with calcium in the water just before they are due to lay, now if you want you can mix up a bucket of seed which is full of good stuff. if you end up with having six chicks hatch it might be worth putting the small chicks into a different nest with  chicks the same size  because if you do have six chicks and leave them in the nest  they stand a good chance of it getting squished by its parents or its brothers and sisters. When the babies have fledged the nest and you can see the young fly and are comfortable sitting on a perch, and are eating seed and not relying on their parents  then it is safe to remove the birds in to a nursery which should be two or three weeks after they have fledged the nest . You should keep the young in the nursery until they have moulted and have their adult feathers I give my birds two or three rounds depending on how their chicks came out before and when it is time to separate them take away the cock bird and leave the hen behind so she can get her strength back and then she’s free to go back in the main aviary. To find out how to make the seed and water mixes click on the link below hope that helps anyone if there is anything else I can do for you just email me by the link on the main page thanks
